I joined the Indian Army as a sepoy at nineteen and retired as Subedar Major after twenty-eight years, with postings in Siachen, the Kashmir valley, Rajasthan and the North-East, and two years as an instructor at the regimental centre. Since coming home to Rewari in 2022, my days go to the ex-servicemen of Rewari, Kosli and Bawal — pension and SPARSH problems, ECHS cards, canteen papers, and the families of soldiers who are no longer with us. Every morning at five I run a free physical-training batch at the stadium for boys and girls preparing for Agniveer and Haryana Police, and on request I plan security for societies, schools and functions in the district. The fauj taught me that a job is either done properly or not done at all; that is the only promise on this card.
